Who hasn't seen dasavala which is a colourful showy flower and not attracted towards it? It attracts everyone with its beauty. Butterflies always fly around this beautiful flower. 

There are different varieties of dasavala plants that grow with different coloured flowers ranging from white, pink, orange, yellow, purple, peach, red and also of varied size. 

The Flowers size varies from 5-15 cm broad. Flower in some variety is single and in some, it is clustered. It is common to see dasavala plants in every garden.

Dasavala in English is hibiscus and also called shoe flower, china rose, rose mallow, hardy hibiscus, rose of sharon and it is called gudhal in Hindi, dasavala in Kannada, mandara in Telugu, japa pushpa in Sanskrit, its scientific name is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis.

Dasavala is a perennial plant and also a woody shrub, some varieties are small trees. They are found in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. 

The Dasavala plant is grown as an ornamental plant and it is also a herbal plant as its leaves and flowers are used in home remedies as well as Ayurvedic medicine. Hibiscus is mainly known for its benefits for healthy hair. 

Among wide varieties of plants, only some of them are used in home remedies and in Ayurvedic medicine. You can use fresh flowers or dried flowers in medicine. It cools our body. You can also chew flowers to get energy.

Menstrual problem

Heavy bleeding and bleeding continuing for many days can be cured using hibiscus as medicine. Red hibiscus flowers are fried in ghee and it is taken with rock sugar 2-3 times a day with milk that treats the condition. This medicine is continued for 3-4 weeks. It also helps to cure white discharge. It also improves haemoglobin.

Aids liver health

Fresh flowers or dried flower powder taken improves the health of the liver. It removes gall bladder stones when taken 2-3 fresh flowers a day or tea prepared from the flower. It also treats jaundice and other liver disorders.

It improves blood

Hibiscus flowers contain iron and consuming 2-3 flowers a day improves haemoglobin production in our body and treats anaemia. Dry flower powder can be used regularly with milk. 

For heart health

Some studies have shown that hibiscus flowers lower cholesterol in our body and lowers blood pressure. It improves heart health. Hibiscus flower tea is beneficial for this. 

Aids kidney health

Hibiscus flowers help to remove the toxins from the body by increasing the amount of urine. Hibiscus tea treats kidney ailments and it is a widely used Ayurvedic medicine.

Dasavala hair oil

Nutrients packed hibiscus oil is the best hair oil for massaging the scalp. Hibiscus oil prepared using hibiscus leaves and flowers removes dandruff from the scalp and strengthens roots and prevents hair fall. It also prevents greying of hair at a young age. 

White hibiscus is preferred in this hair oil preparation. Hibiscus hair oil is prepared at home very easily and it is an organic hair oil that can be used without any harmful effects.

Dasavala hair oil preparation 

Dasavala hair oil is prepared using hibiscus leaves and flowers and base oil. 

6-8 leaves of hibiscus and 5-6 flowers and fried in a base oil like coconut oil or sesame oil in low flame. 

Then strain it and store the oil in a bottle and use this oil regularly which helps to get healthy hair.

You can massage your hair scalp with this hair oil before half an hour of washing your hair.

Hibiscus tea is prepared with dried or fresh flowers of hibiscus. This red tea tastes sweet and a little bit sour. This herbal tea is packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, carotene and calcium and improves the immunity of our body. As it cools our body, a little amount of black pepper powder is added to this tea in winter which benefits us.

Hibiscus tea helps in digestion and removes toxins from our body. It also treats lungs disorders and treats cough and cold.

Aids in weight loss 

Regular taking of hibiscus tea removes unwanted fat and aids in weight loss. With this, you have to follow a healthy diet and exercise. 

Hibiscus tea preparation 

Hibiscus fresh flowers or dried flowers are taken in a bowl. 

Add boiling water to it and allow it for some time. 

Its colour changes after some time and then strain and have it hot or cold.

Tart flavoured tea can be taken with honey and lemon juice.

when you add lemon juice to tea, its colour changes to bright red.

Dasavala face pack

Hibiscus leaves and flowers crushed and used as a face pack that removes dead cells from the skin and avoids the formation of acne, blackheads and whiteheads on the face. It also removes old scar and brings a glow to the skin.

Dasavala organic shampoo

Foaming is a special property of hibiscus, because of this property it is used in preparing organic shampoo. Regular use of this organic shampoo prevents dandruff and infection on the scalp and strengthens hair root and avoids hair fall. It blackens hair and hair becomes shiny. It avoids the side effects of other chemicals. 

Preparation 

Wash 5-8 leaves of hibiscus and 10-12 flowers and crush them.

Boil water in a pan and add crushed leaves and flowers and boil it for 5-6 minutes. 

Then allow it to cool and grind it. Use it as shampoo which is organic.

Dasavala dry powder

This powder can be used when fresh flowers and leaves are not available. This can also be used instead of hibiscus shampoo.

Preparation 

Take leaves and flowers of hibiscus and wash them well.

Then dry this in shade for 2-3 days. 

When it dries thoroughly, powder it and store it in a container.

This powder is used for hair wash and also you can use it with coconut oil before wash.

The religious importance of Dasavala flower

Dasavala flower has sacred value in India. It is offered to god during worshipping god. It is also used in decorating mantaps and used in religious ceremonies.

Cultivation 

Hibiscus can be grown in pots using plant cuttings. It needs good sunlight and water. But in summer it needs some shade. Soil drainage should be good and daily watering is required in summer. It needs a good amount of nutrients.

 You have to provide good fertiliser once a month. In winter it is prone to fungal and bug attacks. You have to use organic pesticides to remove these bugs.
