Aloe Vera benefits in ayurveda, home remedies

Aloe Vera is a succulent, which contains medicinal properties and it nourishes the body inside and out.  In Ayurvedic medicine, it is extensively used to cure many ailments. 

 Aloe Vera plant has long, fleshy leaves with thorns at the border of both sides of leaves.  I grow in Asian, Africa, South America and in many European countries.  Its cultivation is easy as it grows in most of the weather conditions.  

There are varieties of Aloe plants, in that, only a few varieties have medicinal properties  

In Sanskrit, Aloe Vera is called Ghrit-Kumari.  It brings a cooling effect on the body.  It has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal properties.  It also boosts the process of healing. 

ALOE VERA


The fleshy part inside the leaves of Aloe Vera is used in medicine.
It contains vitamin A and B, C, E and minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, copper, zinc and amino acids.

In Ayurveda, Aloe Vera used for the treatment of skin diseases, wounds, insect stings, bruises, eczema.

Aloe Vera gel : 

Aloe leaf, when separated from the plant yellowish liquid, oozes out which is poisonous for our body.  So it is washed thoroughly and edges of the leaf are removed as it contains thorns.  Then upper skin of the layer is removed to get Aloe gel which can be used.  It is always better to use the gel within the hours of harvesting. 

Aloe in home remedies : 

Aloe latex helps in digestion and it prevents constipation. Thus helps to reduce the pain due to piles.

It is used in treating skin conditions such as psoriasis.  It reduces itchiness and inflammation.

Regular use of Aloe Vera gel hydrates and strengthens the hair tissues around the follicles and scalp.  It relieves from the itchiness due to dandruff and thus fights against hair loss.  It also avoids baldness.

Aloe Vera juice benefits for the liver, reproductive system, kidneys as it improves blood circulation.

It is also used for the treatment of anaemia. 

Women who are suffering from the monthly cycle are relieved of symptoms using Aloe Vera.

Due to its antibacterial property, is used in toothpaste, which helps in controlling cavity and gum diseases due to infection. 

Aloe Vera gel is applied on burnt skin and it removes scars from the skin.

Aloe Vera is used to treating jaundice, swelling in the liver.

If you apply Aloe gel on the forehead it relieves from headache and migraine.

If you take  Aloe gel internally it improves eyesight.

Aloe juice for overall health :


ALOE VERA JUICE

Take the gel from the freshly cut leaf of Aloe with water and honey daily early morning for 8-10 days which detoxifies and hydrates and nourishes our body.  It improves immunity and blood circulation in our body.  

Aloe Vera face pack for natural glow :

The herbal face pack is prepared using curd, Aloe Vera gel, turmeric powder, turmeric leaf juice, besan flour.  This face pack removes scars and pimple on face.  Aloe Vera gel moisturises and removes dead cells on the skin. It also removes black patches on the skin. 

Cultivation of Aloe Vera :

Nowadays Aloe Vera has used preparation of medicines and well as in shampoos, soap, face wash, face cream, toothpaste and other cosmetics.  Farmers are growing Aloe Vera in larger quantities because of high demand.
         
Aloe plant easily grows in different soil condition. Nothing special care is needed to grow this plant.

Baby plants of size 10 inches are planted in the farm with a distance of 2 feet from the other plant.  It is better to plant this in the summer season. 

Watering is needed every 10-15 days depending on the soil. You have to give manure at the time of planting Aloe. This plant is less prone to any disease or any insect attack.   

Aloe leaves are ready in 8-10 months to be harvested. Next onwards   Aloe leaves can be harvested every 6 months for 5 years. In between baby, plants grow at the side of the parent plant can be removed and harvested separately.

Aloe Vera in the recipe :

ALOE VERA

Aloe Vera curry : 

Nutrients containing in Aloe Vera makes Aloe Vera curry as a healthy dish. 

Ingredients needed for Aloe Vera curry : 

Aloe Vera leaf 3-4
Turmeric powder 1/2 spoon
Red chilli powder 1 tsp
Green chillies 2-3
Dry Coriander powder 1 tsp
cumin 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Lemon juice 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Cooking oil 4 tsp

Preparation : 

Cut Aloe Vera leaf and remove the outer skin.  Then cut the tender part into square pieces and wash it.

Take oil in a pan and as the oil heats up add cumin seeds and mustard seeds to it. 

When mustard splutters add cut green chillies, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and mix it well. 

Then add chopped Aloe and cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes by adding 1 cup of water.  

Finally, add lemon juice and salt as per taste.

Aloe Vera halwa :

Aloe Vera halwa is a sweet dish.  Aloe with dry fruits and ghee makes this halwa rich in nutrients.

Ingredients needed for halwa : 

Aloe Vera 2-3 leaves
condensed milk 100 gm
Almond 50 gm 
Cashew 50 gm
Milk one cup
cardamom powder 1/2 tsp
Ghee 100 gm
Sugar 150 gm

Preparation :

Cut Aloe leaves and separate the soft portion inside the leaf and cut into square pieces.

Take ghee in a pan and add almond and cashew to it.  Fry till it turns golden brown.

Then remove almond and cashew into a bowl and keep it aside. When it cools grind it coarsely.

Then for the same pan add Aloe pieces and fry it till turns light brown and then add milk and cook for 10-15 minutes till it thickens.

Then add condensed milk and fried dry fruits and mix it well.
Finally, add cardamom powder and mix it well. Halwa is ready.
