Sringeri situated amidst skyscraping mountains and dense forest lands, which is land of  divinity and serenity.  Sri sharadamba temple in Sringeri is situated on the banks of river Tunga, which is established by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Sringeri is in Chickamagalore District of Karnataka.

 Sringeri name came from Sringa giri as the Sage Rishyashringa spent many years in the forests here during Ramayan period. 

There are many places in and around Sringeri which you can visit during trip to Sringeri. Main attraction is temple established by Sri Adi shankaracharya is Sri Sharada Peetham, Sri Vidya Shankara temple, Narasihma vana, Malahanikeshwara temple, Sri Kalikamba temple, Kere Anjaneya temple, Parshwanath Jain temple. These temples are situated in Sringeri town itself. Shankara hills situated outside the town.

Other places around and outside the city of Sringeri are Sirimane falls, Kigga, Sri Durga temple, Maghebail falls, Meguru, Kyathanamakki, Kamandala.

    Sri Sharada Peetham

    Sringeri Sri Sharada peetham was one of the four peetham established by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. It is believed that temple is 1200 year old. Sri Adi Shankaracharya impressed by the divinity of this place and established this peetham. Then he also established temples in four directions of the Sringeri peetham. Kala Bhairava Temple in the East direction, Kere Anjaneya Temple in West direction, Durgamba temple in South direction and Kalikamba temple in the North direction.

    Sri Sharada Peetham is situated beside Vidyashankara temple, You feel divine and blessed as you enter the temple and have the glimpse of Ammanavaru. During Navarathri, Sri Sharada ammanavru decorated as different incarnation of Goddess Durga for nine days which is celebrated with many rituals since many centuries.

    Sri Vidya Shankara temple is an architectural  marvellous which is constructed in A.D. 1338 and it is hoysala and dravidian style of architecture. This temple has six entrances and sculptures of horses, elephants, lion and sculptures of purana purushas, statues of gods and goddesses, gandharvas, kinnarasa are carved in stone. Here main deity is Sri vidya shankara, vidya ganapathi and Goddess Durga. 

    Sri Janardana temple is situated beside Sri Vidyashankara temple. Kshethrapalaka Brahma temple is at the right side of Sri Sharada temple. Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple is at left side of Sri Sharada temple. Sri Balasubrahmanya Swamy temple is at the upper side of Tunga river. 

    There is bathing place at the bank of river Tunga at the right side of the temple where the carving of a snake which is protecting a frog from harsh sun. It is very catchy scene in the river is the presence of fish. 

    Sri Adi Shankara Temple

    Sri Adi Shankar Temple is at the left side of Sri Sharadamba Temple and it is newly constructed. 

    Sri Thorana  Ganapathi

    This temple is at the right side of  Sri Adi shankara temple. In this temple udbhava Ganapathi is in entrance door frame and it is said that all prayers are fulfilled if devotees pray God here.

    Narasihma Vana

    Narasihma Vana is the place where Sringeri Jagadguru stays in Guru nivasa. You can reach this place through Sri Vidyatheertha bridge which is situated at the right side of Sri Vidyashankara temple. Sringeri Jagadguru darshana is allowed here for devotees. Sri Chandramouleeshwara puja Mantapa is in Gurunivasa. 

    Sri Malahanikeshwara temple

    This temple is situated at the hill top at the centre of Sringeri. Special Pooja is offered for the deity here on Shivarathri day. Sri Malahanikeshwara  and Bhavani ammanavaru are worshipped here.

    Sri Kalabhairava Temple

    Sri Kalabhairava Temple is situated at a hill top in Narasihma Vana which is to the East side of Sri Vidyashankara temple. Sringeri Jagadguru perform special pooja on Kalabhairavashtami day. 

    Sri Durga Temple

    This temple is outside Sringeri town and  to the South direction of Sri Vidyashankara temple. Here deity is Sri Durga ammanavaru. In this temple, Maharathothsava is held on Mrugashira nakshathra day of Phalguna Masa. 

    Sri Kalikamba temple

    This temple is situated in the North direction of Sri Vidya Shankara temple, outside Sringeri.  Sringeri Jagadguru perform special pooja on hunnime of Margashira masa, in this temple. 

    Sri Anjaneya Temple

    This temple is situated at west direction of Sri Vidya Shankara temple and it is also called by the name Kere Anjaneya temple. Deepothsava is held in Karthika Masa here. 

    Sri Suryanarayana Temple in Elmagge

    Sri Suryanarayana Temple is situated on the banks of river Tunga in Elmagge  near Sringeri. Sringeri Jagadguru perform pooja on rathasapthami day here for the presiding deity. 

    Sri Parshwanath Swamy Basadi

    A  Digambar jain temple, Sri Parshwanath Basadi is situated in the heart of Sringeri town. The temple construction dates back to 1150 A.D.  Here the deity is Sri Parshwantha Swamy which is at Garbhagriha and in sukhanasi the Goddess padmavathi is the presiding deity.

    Statue of Sri Adi Shankaracharya is coming up at a hillock outside Sringeri town is about 32 feet. Sringeri Sri Jagadguru laid the foundation stone for this on 3rd June 2013. Shankara hill is about 2 km from Sri Vidya Shankara temple. It may open to public in near future as work is going on now.

    Sirimane Falls

    Sirimane falls situated nearly 15 km from Sringeri, a beautiful falls  in Western ghats which you can visit and enjoy. It is 5 km away from Kigga, a small village,  which is also famous for Rishya Shringeshwara temple here.

    Kigga is a small village near Sringeri, nearly 9 km from Sringeri. It is believed that Sage Rishya Shringa stayed and he did penance here during Ramayan period. Here Rishya Shringeshwara temple is present amidst beautiful nature of Western Ghat. It is believed God Rishya Shringeshwara blesses with sufficient rain for the land for prosperity.

    Maghebail Falls 

    Maghebail falls is also a beautiful falls among the Western Ghats near Sringeri. It  is near to sirimane falls and in mansoon season its beauty doubles. 

    Meguru Sri Lakshmi Venkataramana Temple

    Meguru Sri Lakshmi Venkataramana Temple is at a distance of  22 km from Sringeri and here the temple is amidst lush greenary of  hills of Western ghats and is said to be 100 years old. This temple is renovated in the year 2019 and kumbhabhisheka is held at the temple in April 2019, in presence of Sri Sringeri Jagadguru. 

    Kamandala Ganapathi Temple

    This temple is situated near a small town called Koppa  and temple is nearly 35 km from Sringeri. Kamandala Ganapathi Temple is situated on a hill in Which it is surrounded by Sahydri mountain range and it is believed that it is 1000 years old. 

    As the name suggests stone kamandala with eight petalled flower is carved in this temple, where the a river called Brahmi origins. Water comes out of kamandala throughout the year and this flows as river Brahmi. Here in this temple deity is God Ganapathi and it is believed that he fulfils any wish of his devotees. 

    Kyathanamakki hill, for trekking

    Kyathanamakki hill is a trekking spot surrounded by Kudremukh mountain range which is situated 36 km from Sringeri. This hill is also near to Sri Annapoorneshwari temple in Horanadu.  Kyathanamakki hill is surrounded by hills with lush green forests and with wide variety of birds and animals of western ghats. Picturesque landscape is eye catching here and it is a place for adventure loving people.

    Best season to visit Sringeri 

    Winter season is the best time to visit Sringeri, from October to March. In Navarathri devotees throng here get the blessings of Goddess. Special poojas are held and  darbar of Sri Sringeri Jagadguru is held on Navarathri days. 

    How to reach Sringeri ?

    By Bus : 

    Government and private buses with sleeper coach available from Bangalore to Sringeri and the distance between Bangalore to Sringeri is 320 km via NH75.  The road condition is good and is the fastest route via Hassan and Chickamagalore. 

    By Train : 

    Udupi Railway Station is the nearest railway station and then you can hire private taxi or bus to reach Sringeri. Udupi is at a distance of   79 km from Sringeri.  Shimoga Railway Station is 99 km from Sringeri. Buses are available from Udupi and Shimoga. 

    By Air : 

    Mangalore Airport is the nearest airport to Sringeri and is 101 km from Sringeri. Buses are available from there to reach Sringeri.

    Nitya Annadana is served to the devotees at Sri Bharathi Theertha Prasada hall and the food served from 12.15 P.M. to 2.30 P.M.in afternoon and 7.15 P.M. to 8.30 P.M. at night.

    How many days needed to visit all the places in Sringeri ?

    You can visit all temples surrounding Sri Vidyashankara temple in one day. But if you want to visit other places like falls and hill station you need few more days.  

    Staying in Sringeri

    You can stay in Sringeri in guest houses belonging to Sri Matt are Yathri Nivas, Shankara Kripa, Sharada Kripa, Bharathi Vihara, Sri Shankara Sadana and Sri Bharathi Thirtha Kripa.  Sri Srinivasa Kripa is constructed by T.T.D.  Advance booking option not available for these guest houses.

    Other than Sri Matt lodges, private lodges Panchavati cottages, Advaith Lancer, Vidya Bharathi lodges are available. Outside the town Sringeri there are many home stays are available which are to be booked well in advance in peak season from October to March. 

    What are special thing you can buy in Sringeri ?

    Sringeri banana chips, Jack fruit papads ( halasina happala), Red rice, black pepper are specially you can buy in Sringeri. 

    What to avoid in Sringeri ? 

    Do not try to swim in the river Tunga as there are natural whirlpools  in river Tunga are very dangerous. 

    Any dress code in Sringeri Temple ? 

    As of now there is no dress code in Sringeri Matt. Gents need to remove their shirts and banians for gurudarshana. Many devotees prefer to wear saree and dothi, shalya when visiting temple and taking blessings of Sri Jagadguru.
